E. Carolyn Thero, 78 years old, a resident of Loveland, CO and formerly of Manitou Springs, CO, passed away Friday, May 8, 2009 at McKee Medical Center in Loveland from COPD complications. Edith Carolyn Zellhoefer was born September 6, 1930 in Amarillo, Texas to George E. and Edith F. (Martin) Zellhoefer. She moved to Manitou Springs in 1932 where she attended and graduated from Manitou schools. She married H. Craig Thero on May 9, 1965 in Raton, New Mexico. Carolyn worked as an administrative/executive secretary for several companies including Preferred Risk Insurance, El Paso County Veterans Administration, Pantex, Boeing Aircraft, and Colorado State Patrol. She also worked for El Paso County Clerk and Recorder, retiring in September 1996. She enjoyed hunting and fishing with her father, husband and children; working in her yard, bird watching, viewing the aspen every fall, and needle crafts. She was a Cub Scout den mother for several years and was also a dedicated Bronco and Rockies fan. But mostly, she enjoyed spending time with her family and supported her kids in their many activities and endeavors. She is survived by her children: Michael (wife Donna) of Lafayette, CO, Gary (wife Linda) of Colorado Springs, CO, Jerry of Eagle Mountain, UT, Edward (wife Paulette) of Ft. Collins, and Lisa Brough (husband Tim) of Ft. Collins; her ten grandchildren: April Burns (Craig), Katie Thero, Catherine Pattee-Thero, Philip Thero, Craig Brough, Luke Brough, Kaylyn Brough, Christina Roybal, Tony Gorden, and Tim Gorden; and six great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her loving husband H. Craig Thero in November of 1998. A visitation will be held from 1 - 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, May 14, 2009 at Shrine of Remembrance America the Beautiful Chapel in Colorado Springs, CO with a Funeral Service beginning at 2:00 p.m. in the Chapel and with a graveside service to follow at Crystal Valley Cemetery in Manitou Springs, CO.
